A Study on the Methotrexate Treatment of Ectopic Pregnancy in Korea

|
Non surgical treatment of ectopic pregnancy in an effort to preserve fallopian tube and to aboid surgery, has been applied with increasing frequency in Korea. Methotrexate treatment is widely used, for the selected ectopic pregnancy patients. Different modes of methotrexate administration were used:systemic(intrasmuscular or intravenous) injectionor local injection into gestational sac under ultrasonography. We collected Korean articles which were concerned on methotexate treatment of ectopic pregnancy during the period from January 1, 1990 to May 31, 1994., and reviewed of which results were as follows. 1. There were 112ectopic pregnancies who treated with methotrexate, 69 patients with systemic methotrexate, 43 patients with olcal methotrexate. 2. Success rate was 92.75% in systemic methotrexate group which was better than 88.37% of local methotrexate group. 3. After mithotexate treatment tubal patency rate was 88.05% in systemic methotrexate groupwhich compared to 68.75% of local methotrexate group. 4. Side effect rate was 23.52% in systemic methotrexate group. side effect showed 62.5% in gastrointestinal system, 25% in dermatologic system. but severity was very mild. On the other hand there were quite no side effect in local methotrexate group.
